Green building performance in the U.S. is typically rated using the USGBC’s LEED rating system. While LEED drives the industry to apply greatly improved technologies in energy and environmental management, there are even more ambitious rating systems that leading edge projects are using to expand the sustainability of their green buildings. The Living Building Challenge (LBC) is one of these. Omega Institute has completed a system that processes all the institution’s grey and black water on-site, eventually filtering the processed water into the aquifer under the Institute’s parking lot, and resulting in zero discharge to the Hudson River watershed. This is a truly remarkable system and a wonderful educational resource for anyone interested in pushing the bounds of green building in New York. We will also be hearing about the new addition to the Administration Building which has been built using passive house design principles.
Please assemble at the Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OCSL). We will be signing in USGBC attendees in the classroom inside the building, and then we’ll step outside to start the tour.
