GPRO is a national green building training and certificate program developed by Urban Green Council and provided by the U.S. Green Building Council New York Upstate Chapter. GPRO teaches the people who build, renovate and maintain buildings the principles of sustainability combined with trade-specific green construction knowledge. GPRO is a series of courses and coordinated certificate exams that teach staff how to maintain healthier, environmentally sustainable, and energy-efficient homes and offices.
Designated state agency sustainability coordinators and facility managers at state agencies impacted by Executive Order #4 (EO4) are strongly encouraged to take these courses. The GPRO Fundamentals and Operations & Maintenance Essentials are the same courses provided to green professionals in the private and public sectors. GPRO Fundamentals does not require previous training and will provide a solid foundation in the basic principles of sustainability for state agency sustainability coordinators regardless of educational background. The GPRO Fundamentals +Operations & Maintenance Essentials is intended for state agency personnel responsible for on-site building operations and maintenance. Candidates range from building superintendents and managers to stationary or operating engineers.
By taking advantage of these Green Professional courses, state agency sustainability coordinators and facility managers will gain the knowledge and expertise in preventing pollution, increasing recycling, reducing energy and reducing the associated costs for waste management and building energy. State agency representatives will benefit from the knowledge gained in these courses regardless of whether the agency is currently in a green or LEED –certified building. The GPRO concepts may be used in all types of buildings. The types of buildings addressed range from multifamily residential to high-rise commercial to industrial.
This course is made possible through the collaboration between several government entities, including New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, Office of General Services, in conjunction with the U.S. Green Building Council New York Upstate Chapter and Urban Green Council.
Each state agency, authority and other entities subject to EO4 may register the following staff:
· one designated sustainability coordinator for one GPRO Fundamentals Course and
· one facility manager or personnel responsible for on-site building operations and maintenance for one GPRO Fundamentals + Operations and Maintenance course.
It is necessary to submit your registration two weeks prior to the date of the course. Once a state agency employee is registered for the course, that employee is committed to attending that course or sending another employee.
These courses have been developed to provide training to state agencies impacted by EO4 and are being made available to you, given your critical role in state operations, for FREE. Seats are VERY limited and registration is available on a first come, first served basis.
These free courses will be offered for a limited time only, from June through August 2012. Courses will be available in Albany, Rochester and New York City per schedule.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THESE COURSES?
At the end of both the Fundamentals and the Operations and Maintenance course, participants will have the opportunity to take a test to be certified as a GPRO Certificate Holder.
