Noteworthy Green Buildings in the Hudson Valley - A Virtual Tour, Review, and Critique
Presented by: Gail Beverly and Barbara Z. Restaino
Wednesday, March 20, 2013
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
232 Main Street
New Paltz, NY
Green building in the Hudson Valley holds promise to mitigate or solve many of the pressing development issues in the region, from stormwater management to greyfield reclamation. The USGBC is pleased to present a seasonally- appropriate (for those who enjoy staying warm in winter) virtual tour of noteworthy green buildings in the Hudson Valley. Gail Beverly, a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, LEED GA and Green Roofs Professional, will provide a presentation on sustainably designed and built structures in the Valley. These include buildings with living roofs, restored industrial structures, new construction, zero/net-minus residential developments and those which demonstrate living infrastructure applications and daylighting. These types of sustainable approaches are models for future development and a reproach for the continuation of careless development practices in the region. The projects overviewed are an amalgam of public, private and governmental developments and, as such, represent the full range of the possible in the region.
Name 5 examples of significant green buildings in the Hudson Valley area
List 5 aspects of sustainability illustrated by the profiled projects
Discuss 3 instances of lessons learned; list ways that 3 projects could be improved
List 5 sustainable methodologies exemplified by the profiled projects that could be applied widely through the Hudson Valley to alleviate pressing land use and management issues
This course has been approved by the AIA for 1.5 LU/HSW/SD.
